NWA 7831 is a NEW diogenite meteorite that is very gem-like and translucent, one of the most beautiful that I have ever seen! It was discovered in March 2013 in Morocco. It is composed almost entirely of yellow-green orthopyroxene which displays deep clear 'pools' of green and yellow crystals with occasional nickel-iron metal blebs along the cleavages. The total known weight of a single excavated stone by a group of Moroccan nomads is approximately 20-25kg although less than 20kg has been accounted for at this time. There is no fusion crust on any of the fragments that were excavated.
I am offfering this at the same wholesale price OR LESS than the Moroccan dealers since I was the first to obtain some of the material at a great price, and in turn offer it to you at a very generous discount. All of the specimens I offer have been professionally cleaned so you will receive a beautiful display piece that is mostly free of dirt and caliche. Why buy terrestrial dirt when you don't have to?!
Here is the submitted analysis write-up by the classifying scientist, Dr. Tony Irving of the University of Washington, Seattle, WA:
Northwest Africa 7831
Morocco
Find, March 2013
Achondrite (diogenite)
The specimen is composed almost entirely of translucent, yellow-green orthopyroxene (Fs28.1-28.3Wo3.0-3.3; FeO/MnO = 29-31) with very sparse, tiny included grains of Ni-Fe metal, troilite, chromite, anorthite, silica polymorph and clinopyroxene (Fs10.9Wo43.1, FeO/MnO = 26). Secondary pale orange, clay-like deposits from terrestrial weathering are present along thin fractures. Oxygen isotope analyses at the University of New Mexico on acid-washed orthopyroxene gave, respectively, δ17O = 1.677, 1.793, 1.810; δ18O = 3.680, 3.879, 3.875; Δ17O = -0.266, -0.255, -0.236 per mil.
I selected the largest pieces and offer them here individually. I have also run the balance of material through a set of sieves to classifiy them into four separate sizes for DEALER LOTS which will include the following size material; A=5mm-15mm (~45.6g), B=3.36mm (~31.44g), C=2380 microns (~16.12g) and D=420 microns (~7.32g). These are perfect for jewelry making or crafts!!
